Does alkaline water cause dehydration? It’s a strange thought that water may cause you to become dehydrated. Alkaline water does not cause dehydration. In fact, it causes super-charged hydration!
Does Alkaline Water Make You More Thirsty?
We’ve mentioned the awesome qualities of ionized alkaline water many times, and here we go again. Ionized alkaline water is a liquid antioxidant full of minerals. The alkaline pH of the water helps to balance out any acidity in your body. The smaller molecular size of the water means that it is actually absorbed by your body’s cells more easily than regular water. Alkaline water is more hydrating than regular water and will NOT dehydrate you or make you more thirsty. It probably will make you crave more of the delicious water, though.

What exactly is an electrolyte? Electrolytes are minerals in your blood and other body fluids that carry an electric charge. They are a substance that ionizes when dissolved in suitable ionizing solvents such as water. Ionized alkaline water is full of beneficial electrolytes including calcium, magnesium, sodium and potassium. So next time, instead of reaching for an acidic and sugary neon-colored sports drink, reach for a tall glass of refreshing, ionized alkaline water.

Dangers of Dehydration
- A 5 – 8% decrease in water can cause fatigue and dizziness.
- Over 10% dehydration can cause physical and mental deterioration.
- A 15 – 25% decrease of water in the body can be fatal.
Symptoms of dehydration include thirst, headache, dry skin, tiredness, constipation, dizziness and decreased blood pressure.
So there you have it. Alkaline water does not cause dehydration. It makes you more hydrated!
