Water Ionizer Buyer's Guide

Here is our complete list of top-quality alkaline water ionizers, offered by reputable US-based companies that have been in business at least 5 years, offer at least a 5-year warranty and have a service or support facility in the US. While there are many "low-end" models available in the marketplace, the units not featured here lack the legitimacy and dependability required to be respected in a health-based usage environment. While the units and corresponding features on this list vary greatly, they all meet a minimum level of performance, dependability and customer service one would expect from a product we recommend.

TyentUSA™ MMP-9090 Turbo Extreme Suggested Retail Price: $3495.00

Just released is Tyent's 3rd upgrade since the MMP-5050 hit the US markets more than 5 years ago. As the previous Tyent units all scored at the top of the comparisons, I was eager to see what updates could possibly be included with the new 9090. As the name suggests, the 9090 now features 9 ionization plates and a whopping 375 watts of power, meaning that less stress is placed on the machine to produce strong alkaline (or acid) water. This is a great feature for moderate to heavy use, including extended operation at each use. Tyent also raises the bar with new .001 micron filtration, matching the exacting requirements of similar filters used in medical-grade kidney dialysis machines. While the Turbo Extreme may be priced a little out of the budget for some people, it clearly sets the standard for what is to be considered "the best of the best". If you're one of those people that needs to have the best on your block, look no further than Tyent's MMP-9090 Turbo Extreme. If you can afford it and must have the top of the line, there is no comparison.

Evontis Elite™ Suggested Retail Price: $2995.00

New on the scene in 2011 is the Evontis Elite water ionizer, a cousin to the 9-plate TyentUSA MMP-9090TX. The Elite is manufactured in South Korea at the Tae Young factory, the same facility that builds the TyentUSA line. The Elite represents the next generation of South Korean KFDA-approved medical devices, sharing plate technology and power systems with other hi-end models from the same source. The Elite has several advantages over its relatives, specifically a smaller chassis (which really helps overcome counter-top space concerns) and a repositioned water dispensing tube that's located on the center of the unit, allowing placement on either side of a water source. Another great feature of the Elite is the front-hinged door that provides easy access for filter replacement. The Elite is sold exclusively through Evontis's "Residual Offline Affiliate Marketing" channel, a proprietary term for their version of an MLM. The Elite raises the bar for how stars are awarded to top-quality water ionizers.

TyentUSA™ UCE-9000t Suggested Retail Price: $3995.00

TyentUSA's latest model to hit the market is the long-overdue UCE-9000t "Under Counter Extreme" water ionizer. As Tyent already offers the industry-leading above-counter 9090, it makes sense that the company took its time when developing the UCE: after all, reputation is everything, and Tyent maintains a spotless record of quality, performance and reliability. In comparison to the MMP-9090tx, the UCE has an upgraded power-plant, hi-tech color touch-screen control panel, an easy access jog-dial with on/off switch, and the best filtration on the market today. It's our guess that TyentUSA's latest masterpiece will quickly grace the classiest kitchens across the country. If your configuration requires a leading model and integrated installation, TyentUSA's UCE-9000t is our recommendation and earns the title of "Best Undercounter" water ionizer.

TyentUSA™ MMP-7070 Turbo Suggested Retail Price: $2695.00
Though Tyent recently released the new and (surprisingly again) improved MMP-9090, the 7070 Turbo is far from obsolete. The 7070 Turbo still performs better than every other competitor in the market (except its big brother), and is the favorite of customers that choose to spend a little more for a top-of-the-line water ionizer. Fortunately, the addition of the 9090 will help push the suggested retail price down a bit, making the 7070 Turbo a smart step up for those already budgeting for the upper thousand dollar range. The 7070 Turbo is a great unit and I strongly recommend it to anyone that wants a solid ionizer at a great value when comparing to other comparably priced units in the marketplace. The 7070 Turbo retains its 4-star rating.
KYK™ Generation II Suggested Retail Price: $1795.00

In 2009, the KYK Genesis was the best-selling ionizer in the world. Credit for this lied in the Genesis's solid foundation of 7 large plates, sufficient SMPS power, dual filters and a price-tag that stays within most budgets. Now for 2010, the KYK Generation II adds more power, a nicer color, a better warranty and has partnered with Ionizer Support for reputable US-based service. While it lacks a few bells and whistles found on the more powerful Tyent line, it's a dependable and reliable ionizer from a trusted manufacturer at a great value.

Alkalux™ Suggested Retail Price: $1895.00
The Alkalux leads the way for the mid range class of water ionizers. Being dubbed as the "Melody Killer", The Alkalux is heavy on features and light on the price. If you don’t want or can’t afford one of the top of the line models, then keep the Alkalux model on your short list. Ease of use is at an all time high, and with sufficient pH and ORP levels, a good amount of power, large plates, and a good set of filters, you certainly won’t experience buyers remorse with this unit.
Jupiter™ Aquarius & Orion Suggested Retail Price: $1895.00
The Jupiter line of machines are feature rich and user-friendly, but the top of the line unit the Jupiter Aquarius™ didn’t quite meet my expectations in my field test. You can watch a video on my test in the Seeing is Believing section of this web site. The Jupiter and Ionways brand (same manufacturer) seem to struggle when competing with the 7 plate machines on the market. To date there still isn’t a 7 plate Jupiter or Ionways machine, and they still use bulky transformers. That being said, if you want a good looking machine at a fair price, then Jupiter may be for you. Jupiter recently funded what they call an “independent” video comparison. It should be said, that none of these findings on their video jive with my findings. How could they? A five plate machine with 85 watts will never compete with a 7 plate machine with greater wattage. Not a bad line of machines for the budget conscious, but we were not impressed with neither Jupiter nor IonWays.
Enagic™ Kangen™ SD-501 Suggested Retail Price: $3980.00
Enagic is the only company that still hasn’t gone chemical free. Don’t get me wrong, the machine performs, but the chemical injector is a big turn off. I believe that Enagic has been exposed in the industry from many different angles, and I believe that most people will want to keep their families chemical free. I am not ecstatic that it has only one filter, and I especially am not happy about the manual flow control. Overall, however, the Enagic is a decent machine. I don’t let the $3980.00 price tag skew my opinion of it, but I certainly must emphasize that there are better options for less money.
Vollara LivingWater Suggested Retail Price: $1995.00
Relying heavily on a patended new "Direct Disk Ionization Technology", the Vollara LivingWater water ionizer aims to compete against market-leaders that have years of experience with a new form of motor for ionizing water. Vollara invested quite a sum in marketing their product as an advancement from traditional plate-based ionizers, but offers little in the way of documentation or disclosure about the "Direct Disk" technology, it's component parts, or the process by which it seperates water into acid and alkaline streams. After a few rounds of testing the water output for total dissolved solids, flow rates, and pH/ORP comparisons, we'll [probably be the first to] crack the LivingWater ionizer open, dismantle the disk, and analyze what's inside. Keep an eye on our blog for a future post to get a behind the scenes look at the LivingWater's guts. The LivingWater ionizer is made in Taiwan, prompting us to caution consumers until further testing is complete.

I don’t let the $3980.00 price tag skew my opinion of it, but I certainly must emphasize that there are better options for less money.
