The Truth about Kangen/Enagic: A Brief History

Enagic’s™ multi-level-marketing sales team is doing a great job spreading the message of alkaline, ionized water throughout the world. This website is designed to help assemble the vast information in the industry to aid in your decision-making process. Here are the most common questions asked by a visitor that learns of ionized water through an Enagic™ (Kangen) representative:

is-kangens-enagic-ionizer

1. Is Enagic’s Kangen water the “one and only”?

NO! Kangen water is a “brand name” for alkaline, ionized water, the same way “Xerox” is a brand name for a photocopy. Most Enagic™ representatives will have you believe there is something different or better about Kangen water, simply because products sold through a multi-level-marketing program require exclusivity, otherwise, they often fail to be competitive in the marketplace. There are many good alkaline water ionizers on the market today, and we review and rate them from good to best.

2. Is there a better Ionizer than Enagic?

YES!, though “better” is a subjective term. According to our independent and objective method of testing, there are several units that outperform the Enagic™, both in terms of pH and ORP, the two measurable ionization standards. Watch the video below (recorded in early 2007) to see for yourself how Enagic™ compares to the Tyent MMP-5050 (since replaced by the 7070, the 7070T and 9090TX)and Jupiter’s Aquarius (since replaced by the Athena). Remember, Enagic’s™ unit has not changed since this video was created 4 years ago.

3. Is there a less expensive water ionizer?

YES! Since Enagic’s™ unit is presently the most expensive on the market, ALL other ionizers are less expensive (and some even perform better; see video above) than the SD-501. Keep in mind that Enagic™ pays out more than $2650 in multi-level marketing commission for each ionizer sold, which is why the price is so high. Several more advanced ionizers are available for less money. Utilize the resources on this site to make the best decision for your investment.

4. Is ionized water really beneficial?

YES! Although ionization technology is relatively new in American medicine, 1 in 6 households in Japan and Korea owns an ionizer. This is a result of the American medical philosophy (which treats symptoms), as opposed to prevention through healthy decisions. However, many western mainstream doctors, research scientists, and other wellness professionals agree that maintaining a strongly alkaline environment inside your body is critical to overall health. And a water ionizer is an abundant source of high-pH alkaline water and minerals. Study the science of ionized water to learn more!

I just got a unit of ka gen and made to believe that it’s the best of the water ionizers available or is it the only one available in the Philippines?I’m convince that alkaline water is superior to other drinking water available but why is it that it costs more than the others?

to set the record straight, the chemical they use in the kangen machines is strictly for the strong and acidic waters. its in a chamber that is separate from the drinking water, so i dont know why they make a fuss over that. some people get wrong information and make false claims. i think the kangen machines are pricey, but i found out that the company enagic is the only ionizer company that has the gold seal from the water quality
company of america. and im a firm believer in you get what you pay for.

This is a great site. I recently had a bout with gout. Horrific! Was sent to a health store to get kangen water.
Within 48 hours the swelling and throbbing of the inflammation in the toe began to subside. It is getting less and less every day. Would like to continue with the water. But…concerned with effect on kidney. I am a kidney cancer survivor and my one kidney left is surely important to me. What’s your take on damage on kidney?
Would appreciate your thought. Thanks. Hazel, nyc

I’m about to purchase the Real Spirit AQUA SPIRIT 5.0 Countertop Alkaline WATER IONIZER. Overall I read it’s a great unit, but would like your take on this particular unit. I’m also reading that any unit under one thousand dollars is not worth the money or “when it comes to water ionizer pricing, there are basically three categories”: The most expensive, the most common, and the scariest, I need your honest opinion. Your site has been really helpful.

    Hi Rob –
Good info on the machines & very helpful. I’m interested in removing fluoride from my drinking water & have been told that the only way to do this is by distilling. Do any of the machines remove fluoride? I think one of the posts said that it removes chlorine & lead which is good.
    Thanks for the info!

Hi Rob, so glad I found your site. I have been drinking the Kangen water for about 2 months now, and it really does make me feel more hydrated and better overall. I am trying to regenerate my gallbladder, and I believe that it has really kept me healthier and again much more hydrated than any bottled or filtered water. I can’t even drink “regular” water now, it all tastes very metallic to me, thus my interest in my own machine. My holistic dr. gives me the water, but she is far away, and I figure what I am spending in gas to go get the water weekly, the price for the machine would pay for itself in no time. She is a distributor with Enagic, but it is very pricey so trying to look at other options. Thanks for the help!

Hi, I have been trying Kangan water for about a month, to buy it here in Ireland would be about €2799 plus 21% VAT, so I went on the web and found your site (very enlightening), my questions are firstly what are your thoughts on the kyk gen2? also will it work on Irish power supply which is 220 / 240 volt?

    Thank you.

Good job, Rob. Especially re: WQA Gold Seal. If WQA knew how Enagic reps were using this designation in marketing they would probably pull it because it is not what they say it is. WQA is an expensive organization to get certified through … there are other certification processes that are just as credible. All ionizers I know of marketed in the US could qualify for WQA Gold Seal, they just don’t do the sales volume that Enagic does to enable the brands to pay that kind of money for the approval process.

I personally believe all ionizers make pretty much the same water … what will be the deciding factor in the future is how CLEAN is that water … ie. how good is the internal filter. Enagic’s internal filter removes chlorine and lead … that’s all.

I have been loaned the Enagic system for 3 wks to try out. I am being told that one of the reasons for the higher cost is due to the higher level of output. That because it’s the only unit that has as many platinum/titanium plates, therefore the higher cost. Is this a fact? If not, what other Co. or unit would have a high output? I have a small restaurant & would need a higher output if I were to take it to that level. Thanks

hmmm. Enagic claims their SD501 is the only ionizer manufactured that is a medical device anywhere in the world…in Japan by a prestegious group of medical doctors (6500) for the prevention of adult diseases; and in Canada. Also, that the water from the SD501 is also the only water produced in the world that has the gold seal certification from the Water Quality Association (WQA); also of substantial merit.. no other ionizer marketer seems to publish this. Please exlain why ?
