Water Ionizers Reviewed Tip Sheet

Water ionizers can last a lifetime. There are even premium water ionizers that offer lifetime warranties. Since a unit will basically become part of your family, it’s important to do your research before purchasing a water ionizer.

After reading this article you’ll find it easier to choose a machine that best suits your needs and budget.

What are water ionizers?

Water ionizers convert your normal tap water to ionized alkaline water. Some machines can produce both alkaline and acidic water. The alkaline water produced by water ionizers has an abundance of health benefits and is highly recommended by senior health and medical experts.

What’s the benefit of drinking ionized alkaline water?

Alkaline water is water with a pH higher than 7, the higher the pH the more alkaline it’s considered. Alkaline water produced by water ionizers is known for its amazing health benefits. As mentioned earlier, ionized alkaline water is highly recommended by health professionals.

Benefits of drinking ionized alkaline water:

  • Alkaline water keeps the body well-hydrated
  • Alkaline water increases body energy levels
  • Alkaline water fights fatigue
  • Alkaline water eases muscular pain
  • Alkaline water supports healthy bones
  • Alkaline water aids in digestion
  • Alkaline water supports a healthy immune system
  • Alkaline water is a great detox
  • Alkaline water improves focus

Some high-quality water ionizers have the capability to produce alkaline water with molecular hydrogen. Molecular hydrogen is the smallest molecule in existence and its therapeutic effects on the human body have been the subject of over 1000 clinical studies. Alkaline water with molecular hydrogen is much better than alkaline water alone. Drinking molecular hydrogen alkaline water has a much more positive influence on our health.

Benefits of drinking molecular hydrogen alkaline water:

  • Is readily absorbed in the bloodstream and quickly energizes our body, especially after exercise
  • Abundant in antioxidants which fight free radicals that are responsible for damaging cells in our body
  • Slows down the body’s natural aging process
  • Keeps the skin smooth, healthy and prevents wrinkles
  • Improves gum health by neutralizing any acids left in our mouth after a meal

Water Ionizers Reviewed Tip Sheet

Water Ionizer Plates

Plates are a determining factor when it comes to water ionizers.

The number of plates in water ionizer units varies depending on the model and the manufacturer. The number of plates and the amount of surface area of these plates determine how much alkaline water is produced in a given time and how high the water’s pH is. A greater surface area will ensure more ionization and hence a higher pH of alkaline water. Water ionizers with 9 plates are considered good. The best quality ionizers usually have 11 or 13 plates.

The type of plate is also important and not something to overlook. When choosing your water ionizer make sure to know what type of plates it uses. Solid plates and mesh plates are okay but the problem is that what one lacks in surface area, the other lacks in durability. Solid/Mesh hybrid plates are the only ones that are durable and also have a large surface area. Make sure that the water ionizer you buy only uses Solid/Mesh Hybrid plates.

Water Ionizer Filters

Filters are another essential water ionizer component and play an important role in determining the quality of water an ionizer produces.

Ultra-filtration is the preferred filtration process for water ionizers. This is the same filtration process used by kidney dialysis machines if it has a 0.01-micron level. Ultra-filtration ensures that the alkaline water produced by a water ionizer is free of any harmful chemicals or other suspended solids.

0.01-micron filters are the standard for ultra-filtration, so before making a decision to buy a new water ionizer, don’t miss this feature. Make sure the water ionizer you’ve selected uses at least 0.01-micron filters.

Good ionizer brands use a dual-filtration system in their machines, which is the combination of a ceramic filter and a 0.01-micron filter. This ensures that all bacteria, heavy metals or any other contaminants are completely removed from the water. Dual-filtration using these two filters is the recommended choice in water ionizers.

Water Ionizer Power Supply

Power plays an important role in determining the quality of water produced by a water ionizer. Ionizers with insufficient power won’t be able to produce alkaline water with high pH, and if you want your ionizer to produce acidic water as well, you need to make sure that the water ionizer you buy has ample power. Ionizers without enough power need to rely on chemicals to produce acidic water, and even though acidic water is used only for external purposes, chemicals are something we should avoid when it comes to water ionizers. So, beware of any water ionizers that don’t have enough power but still advertise their ionizers as being able to produce acidic water. They’re using chemicals to do that. Only water ionizers with high power can produce high pH alkaline water and acidic water without having to rely on chemicals.

Ionizers that can’t deliver enough power and produce low-quality alkaline water use a Linear Power Supply. This is very old technology and is used typically by brands that haven’t updated their technology in years. An accurate example of this would be Enagic. Enagic/Kangen still use this technology and haven’t updated their power supply to newer standards in at least the last 10 years. Since they use an obsolete power device, their machines have to rely on chemicals to produce acidic water. Ionizers that use a linear power supply also tend to overheat a lot, which can damage a water ionizer.

SMPS (Switched Mode Power Supplies) is the preferred supply used by most good quality ionizers. Ionizers using SMPS are lighter, smaller and do not generate much heat as compared to linear units.

SMPS Plus is the latest innovation in powering water ionizers. This technology was developed by Tyent, and it’s exclusive to them. Their engineers developed it by upgrading the existing SMPS technology. SMPS Plus is an upgrade over the traditional SMPS and is much more efficient. It also doesn’t generate any heat and ionizers powered by SMPS Plus run very cool. They also produce the highest levels of pH in alkaline water and can produce acidic water easily, purely on their power without using any chemicals.

Water Ionizer Interface

Quality water ionizers have an easy to use interface, and the most modern ones use an interactive LCD touchscreen interface.

Although keep in mind, a fancy touchscreen isn’t any good if the water ionizer’s plates and filters don’t satisfy the criteria we discussed above. So, don’t fall for an ionizer just because it boasts a good touchscreen. Some companies like Enagic often try to deceive their customers by focusing more on aesthetics, rather than performance.

Enagic water ionizers have an abundance of issues. Enagic customers often complain that their ionizer plates break, especially during cleaning. Moreover, Enagic machines also lack a proper filtration system. Moral of this story: Appearances can be deceiving.

Unlike Enagic ionizers, good quality water ionizers like the Tyent ACE-13 are known for their durability, efficiency, as well as their aesthetic appeal.

Alkaline water won’t do you any good if it’s contaminated, so be sure to get the best filtration available.
